Spanner Biomass CHP

The UK’s renewable energy market has an innovative new player. German engineering expert Spanner Re² GmbH are attracting attention with their Biomass CHPs and are proving to be a huge sales success in the UK.

Many types of diverse UK business operations are benefiting from the many advantages of the parallel production of heat and electricity from burning regionally available wood chips. From agriculture and forestry, local or remote heating networks to green hotels and wellness estates. They are all transforming their businesses with the UK’s most popular Biomass CHP.

The Biomass CHP’s operation is heat-based, with the plant’s output being 1/3 electrical and 2/3 thermal power. This output successfully addresses the needs of businesses that require heat for livestock breeding, cooling, pelleting or drying purposes, swimming pools, wellness areas, and the operation of local power and heat networks.

There are also attractive cost advantages of running a Biomass CHP in the UK. For the compensation of the power produced, ROC (Renewable Obliga-tion Certificates) regulations apply. Current ROCs in the UK are at 4 to 5 p/kWel. In line with the regulations valid until March 2017, UK operators of Spanner Re² Biomass CHPs are eligible for receiving 1.8 ROCs. For example, at a value of 4.5 p/kWel x 1.8, an operator will receive 8.5p for each kWel produced by their plant (minus a service fee of 2p/kWel/ROC deducted by the power supplier). When the power is fed into the electricity grid, the operator receives an additional 3 to 4p/kWel.

The heat is also compensated following the RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) regulations. For Spanner Re² Biomass CHPs the Small Biogas Combustion Tariff applies, which is currently at 5.9p/kWth.

Thanks to their modular design Spanner Re² plants are delivered within eight to twelve weeks upon placement of the order. This enables start of operation in just two to three months after order placement.

All UK customers receive expert installation, repair, and support services by a dedicated local Spanner Re² team. Spanner Re² experts are available to as-sist customers with expert technical and legal advice to ensure optimum plant efficiency and economy.

Spanner Re² Biomass CHPs consist of the innovative, patented Spanner Re² gasifier and an efficient CHP powered by wood gas. The patented gasification process in the Spanner Re² Biomass CHPs produces a highly pure and condensate free wood gas and ensures a continuous gas production. This ensures that operation of the plant is easy, highly reliable, and environmentally friendly. In their power range Spanner Re² Biomass CHPs feature clear advantages over other technologies like steam turbines or ORC plants - especially when it comes to investment cost, efficiency, overall profitability, and implementation speed. Biomass CHP plant uses locally sourced timber, which, by contrast to oil or gas, is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

“We have sold over 550 Biomass CHPs worldwide and 2016 will be another record year for us”, says Thomas Bleul, Managing Partner at Spanner Re². “Our UK market is growing exponentially as more and more farm and forestry businesses are realising how a Biomass CHP can make them independent of fluctuating energy prices and give them ultimate power autonomy reliability while at the same time earning them real money.”

Spanner Re² offers the Biomass CHP in two power sizes: 30 kWel/73 kWth, and 45 kWel/108 kWth. System operation is fully automated and highly reliable. The plant has passed emission and additional regulation tests in all major countries.

Generating heat and electricity simultaneously with a Spanner Re² Biomass CHP will future proof any business model. For more information on how Spanner Re² can help you to diversify your business please visit www.holz-kraft.com.
